2008 - Year of the frog2008 is decided to be the officially year of the frog beneath some others.
The reason for this is the great extinction of the amphibians because of many reasons. There live many frog species all over the world and they are threatened with extinction. Habitat loss is a significant cause of frog population decline, as are pollutants, climate change, the introduction of non-indigenous predators/competitors, and emerging infectious diseases including chytridiomycosis.
The chytrid fungus is wiping out frog species across the globe, making some scientists worry about a mass amphibian extinction.
